The Human Rights Civil Documentation & Mobility Initiative (CDMI)

An emerging global human rights issue is the inability of some vulnerable populations to secure, access  and/or register civil documentation (e.g., birth certificates, national identification cards, passports). This issue compromises an individual’s nationality status, social mobility, and freedom of movement because of fear of detainment or deportation. As such, through CDMI, AFCA provides (1) technical assistance, (2) training, (3) strategic planning services, and (4) human capital through professional volunteers and experiential educational opportunities for college and law students as value added resources in support of local initiatives designed to address this emerging issue.  CDMI provides services in the following regions:

  • Dominican Republic
  • Haiti
